Results declared for Community Council election

The results for the election to South Ronaldsay and Burray Community Council have been declared.

A recent rallying call to action by the Council for local folk to step up to form a Community Council in South Ronaldsay and Burray saw ten willing candidates put their name forward.

With eight places available, ballot papers were issued and the following will now form the Community Council:

  • Fiona Lawtie
  • Derek Ward
  • Robert Smith
  • Roger Jackson
  • Richard Bland
  • Morven Brooks
  • Kelly Budge
  • Karen Sinclair

The turnout for the election was 48.84%

Karen Greaves is the Council’s Corporate Director of Strategy, Performance and Business Solutions, the service area with responsibilities for community councils and elections.

She said: “Congratulations to those who have been successfully elected who will now form the South Ronaldsay and Burray Community Council

“Community Councils are one of the most important sounding boards for the Council on a range of grass roots issues - and these people will now provide a vital voice for the area.

“Having a community council for every area is really important and with a community council now formed, we look forward to getting back to engaging with the communities in South Ronaldsay and Burray, finding out what their issues are, what is important to them, and assisting them with projects that they might be keen to pursue.”
