Bird owners reminded poultry shows remain banned

Date: 04 July 2023

With show season soon to start, Orkney Islands Council is reminding the local community that while the UK wide Avian Influenza Prevention Zone has been lifted today ( 4 July), poultry shows and gatherings remain banned.

Manager of the Council’s Trading Standards service, Gary Foubister, also oversees Animal Welfare. He said:

“The risk of avian flu to our wild bird populations remains high, with recent cases confirmed in England – and so good biosecurity standards and hygiene practices, and a ban on poultry gatherings, remains key to protecting your birds and our unique wildlife.”
