EMA Deadline Reminder

Date: 31 January 2023

Any pupils who were born between 01/10/2006 and 28/02/2007 may be eligible to apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) of £30 per week if their household income is below the threshold. Thresholds are £24,421 for households with one dependent and £26,884 for households with two or more dependents.

Application deadline is 28 February 2023.  For an application form, please contact your school, Customer Services, OIC or http://www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Directory/E/EMAs.htm

EMA is to encourage those pupils turning 16 from low income households to continue at school or college after their statutory school leaving age. The aim is to increase participation and retention in post-16 education. The Scottish Government wants young people to be able to choose from the same learning opportunities, regardless of background or circumstances.
