Kerbside recycling disruption for households over public holidays

Date: 22 November 2022

Orkney Islands Council is advising that, as in previous years, there will be disruption in kerbside recycling for households over the festive period due to public holidays.

This is because we need available crews to collect domestic waste from households that will miss their waste collections due to public holidays, bearing in mind we also have reduced staff numbers, again due to the public holidays.

Areas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and Westray: The week starting Monday 28 November will be your last opportunity for kerbside collection of paper and metals before early next year (week starting 23 January, on your usual collection day).

Areas 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and Shapinsay: The week starting 5 December will be your last opportunity for kerbside collection of glass and plastic bottles before early next year (in week starting 30 January, on your usual collection day).

Information on recycling disruptions for trade customers will be available shortly.
