Possible strike disruption – waste and recycling

Date: 24 August 2022

With no national pay agreement in place as yet, strike action is set to go ahead in a number of local authority areas, including Orkney, from Friday through to Monday 26-29 August.

The disruptions will most likely affect the county’s waste and recycling collection services on the Friday and Monday.

On Friday this could see disruptions to area 5 for recycling and areas 13 and 15 for waste and on Monday, Westray could be affected alongside Mainland areas 1 and 6 for refuse and area 9 for recycling.

Commercial waste collections are also likely to be affected.

Updates will be provided via OIC Updates as soon as is possible on the morning of the planned days of action, so keep an eye out on there.

Folk are asked to put their bins out as normal on Friday – and if not collected, to take them back in and hold on to the waste and recycling if at all possible.

Officers are planning as best they can with contingencies – but it is difficult to know exactly how severe disruptions will be until it is known how many will be striking.
