Short road closures next week for festive lighting checks

Date: 22 August 2022

There will be short periods of delay and road closures in central Kirkwall, Stromness and St Margarets Hope during the week starting Monday 29 August as the Council carries out safety tests on the fixings and anchors points for festive lighting.

Works will start in Kirkwall on Monday and Tuesday, 29 and 30 August. Crews will then be in St Margaret’s Hope on Wednesday 1 September, before moving to Stromness on Thursday 2 September. Work may continue into Friday to catch up on any outstanding tests or repairs.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the road closures wherever possible to do so safely.

There will be delays and short road closures while the works are carried out, on the following roads:

  • Kirkwall - Bridge Street, Albert Street, Broad Street, Victoria Street and Main Street
  • St Margarets Hope - Cromarty Square and Back Road
  • Stromness - John Street, Victoria Street and Graham Place

The Council thanks the Orkney public for their patience while we carry out these important checks.
