Stromness flagstone repairs and road closure update - as at 24 March

Date: 24 March 2022

Flagstone repairs on the section of Alfred Street, Stromness from Hellihole to Mayburn Court, have been completed. This section remains closed for curing at the moment and will reopen from Monday 28 March.

Works will move to South End from Monday 28 March, meaning access to Mayburn Court will be from the Hellihole Road / Alfred Street junction end. The road will continue to be closed, from Hellihole Road / Alfred Street junction to Ness Road, with no through vehicular access.

This section of the works are expected to take 2-3 weeks to complete, weather dependent.

Where required, repaired areas will be covered temporarily to allow them to fully cure, and it will be necessary for the areas to remain closed while this takes place.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

This flagstone repair work is being carried out by BDS Surfacing Ltd on behalf of the Council. The contractor’s working hours will generally be 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday working.

The Council wishes to thank drivers for their ongoing patience, and apologises for the inconvenience these works may cause.
