Ferry Road roundabout - Phase 2 road works start

Date: 16 March 2022

The Phase 1 road resurfacing works at Ferry Road roundabout in Stromness have been progressing well.

We'll therefore be changing over to Phase 2 works at some point in the morning tomorrow, Thursday 17 March. The Phase 2 works will involve closure of Cairston Road at the roundabout, and a 4 mile diversion for motorists via Deepdale. (In more detail, the diversion is Cairston Road, Howe Road, the main A965 round Deepdale, and North End Road north of the roundabout).

A reminder to public bus users that the X1 and Service 5 to Houton will continue to serve Hamnavoe following the diversion, therefore delays are to be expected. Phase 2 of the works are expected to take around four days to complete, weather dependent.

A diversion plan for Phase 2 can be viewed at www.orkney.gov.uk/roads. Drivers are reminded to be prepared over the next week or so to allow extra time for their journey.

More details about these specific road works are available here: https://www.orkney.gov.uk/News?postid=5532
