Easter Study Support opportunities for senior phase learners in Orkney

Date: 10 March 2022

Orkney senior phase youngsters who are preparing for SQA exams and final assessments are set to benefit from additional funding being made available by Orkney Islands Council.

COVID disruption has meant that this year’s SQA exam diet is the first to go ahead in three years - so Orkney youngsters in S4, 5 and 6 will be sitting exams for the first time.

Additional funds will be used to improve equity and access to study support, with Mainland secondaries and isles Junior High Schools offering a range of strategies.

Some school subject departments are running after-school study sessions, with others helping to arrange for youngsters to access learning during the Easter break. Funding can also be used to help cover transport costs if youngsters wish to attend school supported study outside normal school hours, and there is provision for help with access to broadband and electronic devices for study.

Orkney pupils are also being encouraged to sign up for live, online Easter Study Support webinars from the National e-Learning Offer. There are sixty-six courses on offer, ranging from N4 through to N5, Higher, and Advanced Higher. Last year, the NeLO webinars proved very popular, with 15000 registrations across Scotland. Interactive webinars are delivered by experienced and fully qualified teachers. They are completely free and can be accessed anywhere. All Orkney secondary schools are supporting youngsters to get signed up for the programme, which runs between April 7 and 14. Registration is open during the month of March.
