The KGS community have thanked Orkney Drugs Dog and Police Scotland for their “brilliant” drugs education awareness partnership talks.

The charity’s Dog Handler, Kevin Moar along with Sergeant Simon Hay provided information on the dangers of drug use to pupils at KGS, Stromness Academy and the Junior High Schools on Westray, Sanday and Stronsay to bolster the schools’ ongoing Health and Wellbeing programmes.

KGS Head Teacher Claire Meakin said: “Each week, staff at KGS nominate colleagues who have gone ‘above and beyond’ to support our pupils, parents, staff or community. This gives them the opportunity to (anonymously) say thank you and ensures each week finishes with lots of positivity and celebration. We have had some incredible nominations and it’s great that we take the time to recognise some things that may ordinarily have gone unseen / unheard about.

“The presentations that Simon and Kevin gave to our pupils were brilliant and we were incredibly grateful for their support. I was really pleased that a member of staff had taken the time to recognise them for this.”

Andrew Drever, Chairman of Orkney Drugs Dog said: “It’s really encouraging to get feedback and we are delighted to be recognised for the quality and content of these recent presentations. Thank you to those who nominated us for this acknowledgment.”
