Retiring Development and Infrastructure Chair Praises Incredible Efforts of Staff

Date: 16 February 2022

Councillor Graham Sinclair

The retiring Chair of Orkney Islands Council's Development and Infrastructure Committee has described the support he's received from fellow Councillors and Council staff in his 15 years with the Council as 'something special'

Councillor Graham Sinclair, an Elected Member for Orkney's North Isles, will not be seeking re-election at the Council elections in May - bringing to an end three terms with the Council

At his final meeting of the Development and Infrastructure Committee yesterday (Tuesday 15 February) Councillor Sinclair expressed his gratitude to the Council's staff - giving particular mention to the incredible efforts made during the pandemic to keep services going.

"I thank all staff from right throughout the organisation for the openness and support I've enjoyed from them all - whether that be staff at Director level or the staff working on the roads, piers or ferries. Very real efforts are put in by these staff day after day - particularly over the last two years of Covid - they are absolutely outstanding.  As an organisation we need to be ready to recognise that.

"I would also give heartfelt thanks to the committee members, who throughout my time as Chair have provided valuable support, but also important challenge and scrutiny. I'd give particular thanks to my vice-chair Andrew Drever, who has rolled up his sleeves on many occasions to help me out.”

Councillor Sinclair also gave particular praise to the Council's Committee Services team, for their valuable help and guidance.

Councillor Sinclair concluded by saying: "As I'm not seeking re-election this year, it's important that I say this - the support of members and officers over 15 years has been something special."
