St Rognvald’s “County Show” family fun day hailed a massive success

Date: 23 August 2021

St Rognvald House - County Show

Staff at St Rognvald House care home continued to show their “extra mile” ethos putting on an amazing “County Show” for residents and their families on Saturday.

The initial drizzle did nothing to dampen the high spirits on the day as all enjoyed simply being together again alongside animals, musicians, dancers, good food, raffles, lucky dips, staff races and fun events.

The staff-organised event also raised more than £1,000 for the care home’s Activity Fund, which will mean more events for residents to enjoy.

St Rognvald’s Manager Shirley Miller said she was very proud of the team around her.

“Our Peedie County Show has been fantastic, and I am so proud of all my staff - saying they have gone the ‘extra mile’ is an understatement. The residents have had a special day and that is what it was all about - the fact that we have raised over a £1000 for our Activity Fund is just a bonus.

“I must give special mention to Pam Dearness, India Harcus and Kirstin Swannie for organising and to all who came from the musicians to the dancers and those with animals to show; I think the smiles on the faces of everyone in the photos speak for themselves.”

Samantha Miller and her daughter Maddie went along to enjoy with relative and care home resident, Cindy Miller.

Samantha said: “The staff were amazing, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Being able to take the dogs was just perfect as many of the residents, staff and families loved stroking and cuddling them. The piglets were my favourites! Not even the weather could spoil it. Thanks to the whole staff team for making it perfect.”

Resident Barbara Jolly, who celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this year, was able to spend further quality time with her daughter, Carol-Ann, grandaughter, Karoline and great grandchildren Khloe and Alec.

Karoline said: “A big thank you to all at St Rognvald's who organised the Peedie County Show. To be able to spend the afternoon with Oma (Barbara) like that....well....it's hard to put into words how much that meant.”
